Sister recently upgraded her 30-year old road bike to a brand spanking shiny new one.  It is so fancy that Sister sometimes goes into the garage to stare at it.

Because Sister hasn’t riden in a long time, she has been going through a “gettin’ tough” process.  It hurts.   Sister is a bit of a wimp.  The funny thing is  that Sister THOUGHT she was fit.  She thought she was strong.  She thought she had it going on.  She has had to “humble herself up” a bit.  What happened?  Lots of things.  Life.  Age.

So Sister is starting all over on the shiny bike.  That’s okay.  “Step by step…..”  Name that song.*   The important thing to remember is not to get discouraged.  Don’t stop.  Research indicates that to fully incorporate a new activity into one’s life, it should be added gradually.  Too many people do too much too soon and what happens?  Poof.   Set small attainable goals each week then take it up a notch for the next.

So, some days might feel better than others.  That’s okay.    Give it time and before you know it, you will be tearing it up.  Let’s get going, girlfriends!

Today’s workout:  Dog walking x 40 minutes, short hilly bike ride x 1 hour.  Puff puff, pant pant.

*New Kids on the Block circa 1986.  Sister has the single.
