Are you ever crunched for time when it comes to your workout? When you are under the time crunch, there is a type of training that is short in duration and packed full with benefits.
One of the current fitness trends is the inclusion of high-intensity circuit training (HICT) using body weight as resistance; that is, combining aerobic and resistance training into a single exercise session using your own body weight as resistance.
The benefits of this type of training are compelling. HICT can be an efficient way to lose body fat. Combining moderate training and aerobic conditioning with short rest sets can have metabolic benefits. Who knew? There is also some evidence to suggest that HICT can improve other health parameters including insulin resistance and cardiopulmonary fitness.
There are 3 things to take into consideration:
- What is your level of fitness? Are you just starting out?
- Do you know what exercises work best for you? Everyone has movement patterns which may preclude them from doing certain motions. That is where your exercise professional can help determine what is best for you.
- Do you have any conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diagnosed heart disease or previous injuries? Again, your fitness trainer can help work around these conditions and develop a program that is right for you.
The important thing to remember is that there is a program for everyone. When you are pressed for time, there is always something you can do to fit activity into your day.
Remember, anything is better than nothing! So get out there, get moving.
