Calling all sisters!

The website www.nwcr.ws is the National Weight Control Registry.  Its’ sole purpose is to gather data on those “lucky” people who have lost a significant amount of weight and kept it off long term.  The investigators state on their website: “given the prevailing belief that few individuals succeed at long term weight loss, the NWCR was developed to identify and investigate the characteristics of individuals who have succeeded at long term weight loss.”

They are tracking over 10,000 individuals.  If you have lost a minimum of 30 pounds and have kept it off for over one year, they want to be your new BFF.  Are you a successful loser?  Do you want to be a successful loser?  Check out their site.

Here are some statistics that might help if you are struggling:

– 94% increased their physical activity.  The most common reported activity is walking.

– 90% successful losers continue to exercise one hour per day.

Huh?

Yep.  You read right.  One hour per day.  Remember, in terms of caloric expenditure, physical activity does not have to happen in one lump chunk of time.  It can be spread out over the course of the day.  So you can walk four times at 15 minutes per session.  Or two 30 minute sessions.  Or six 10 minute sessions.  Isn’t math fun?

Let’s get out there, girlfriends!

* Lucky – Sister uses this term facetiously.  There is no luck involved in weight management.  Successful weight loss requires us to be inventive, brave and uncomfortable (sweat, anyone?).  So let’s get out there and get lucky!
