I am a big fan of the feature, Google Alerts; a handy dandy service that provides email updates on the latest news based on a particular search inquiry. Although I have several alerts on file, the most widely active alert is based on the search term “women and exercise.” What I like about Google Alerts is that I can review pertinent news regarding women and exercise and then blog about what I think my readers will find interesting and educational.

For your reading pleasure, here is a sampling on relevant articles pertaining to exercise and it’s effect on women’s health, fitness and overall wellbeing:

I dare say that this powerful sampling suggests there is ample evidence on the positive benefits of physical activity in women’s lives.

Here is one of my favorite articles that appeared last week:

This article highlights a program in Tyler, Texas, where women have found a support network through exercise. Ladies with no exercise history find that, after a few short months, their lives are transformed by movement and social support. In my experience working with women trying to fit activity into their life, this is one of the most often cited reasons for success; sisterhood! As I have always believed and continue to witness, we are in this together. Who are are your friends in fitness? If you are looking for ways to find your own exercise “sisters,” here are 3 tips to get you started:

  • Check out your local recreation center. You might prefer the kind of  vibe in these classes than that of traditional gym setting.
  • Look at your local meetup groups for activity classes.
  • Network with neighbors or co-workers to find out what they do to live an active life.

Now if you will excuse me, I am going to call my friend and go for a walk.
