Big news! A study published this week in the Journal of the American Medical Association suggests that women should work out 60 minutes per day, seven days per week to maintain a normal weight over their lifetime.
Sister says, “You want me to do WHAT?”
Because Sister doesn’t like to set herself up for failure, let’s look more critically at this study. This is a 13-year study which looked at the association of different amounts of physical activity with long-term weight changes among women consuming a usual diet. Usual diet. Those words are key. The findings of this study suggest that for those women whose diet remained the same over 13 years moderately exercised for an average of 60 minutes per day seven days per week.
Now we all know that as we age, our metabolic rate slows down. Way down. So we have some choices. We can either exercise more, eat less or do a combination of both. The women in this study who didn’t gain weight ate the same exercised a lot.
Sister says if you want to keep eating the same amount of food, then you better amp it up baby and shake it, move it and find cardio activities you can live with. Sister herself may choose to shake it, move it and eat one less row of Girl Scout mint cookies.
Activity of the Day: Thirty minutes walking at a 4.0 mph rate, one hour of road biking and stretch. Don’t forget to stretch. Let’s get going girlfriends!
