Jack LaLanneHow are coping in the midst of the hustle and bustle? In keeping with our Holiday Survival Guide theme, I saw a Facebook post which linked to a Jack LaLanne video promoting the attainment of happiness through eating a diet of fresh vegetables and lean meat as well as a life full of physical activity. I remember watching my mom exercising to Jack LaLanne on the TV. He was so ahead of his time and I can just picture his blue jumpsuit and ballet flats and big biceps. This FB post sparked my interest so I went to Jack’s website. Even though Jack is no longer with us, his website is full of life. One of the tabs is called, “LaLanneisms.” The page is filled with Jack LaLanne sayings which served as a platform for his message.

In this holiday time, I thought I’d post some of Jack’s “isms.” They are reminders of why activity can make life better. During the holidays, one simple thought can help put those shoes on and get you out the door for a 20 minute walk, or to your yoga class or on that stationary bike. Enjoy.

  • Anything is possible and you can make it happen.
  • Exercise is King, nutrition is Queen, put them together and you have a kingdom.
  • Do, don’t stew.
  • You eat every day, you sleep every day, and your body was made to exercise every day.
  • Better to wear out than to rust out.
  • People don’t die of old age, they die of inactivity.

Maintaining some physical activity during the holidays makes for an easier New Year. Create your own “isms.” Keep these simple thoughts in mind and just do something. Let’s hear it for an active season!
