Welcome to the Feeling Fit Club with Melissa Wogahn
I am so happy you are here!
What is the Feeling Fit Club?
The Feeling Fit Club is a physical activity program sponsored by the County of San Diego Aging & Independent Services. Its mission is to support the physical function for older adults of all abilities so they will remain independent.
Our class focuses on four aspects of fitness and how they relate to overall function in our daily lives so that everyday tasks are safer and more comfortable to perform. The Feeling Fit Program is an evidence-based program with four areas of focus:
- Aerobic or cardiovascular (including a warmup and cool down)
- Balance & core awareness
- Muscle strength
- Flexibility

What do we do in class?
Aerobic section: approximately 25-30 minutes is spent focusing in conditioning the heart and circulatory system. This includes a warm-up and cool-down. Movements can be performed standing or sitting. Movements focus on coordination with various movement patterns for foot to brain coordination.
Balance/Core Awareness: This section focuses on dynamic balance where we perform large movements challenging center of gravity. Static balance activities are also incorporated where we address visual aspects of balance. Core training activities are incorporated throughout the entire class, and we focus on how the core helps overall function in this section.
Muscle Strength: This is the section where we use dumbbells and bands. We focus on specific exercises that address specific muscles and how these exercises can help us in our daily lives.
Flexibility: We end class with relaxing stretching exercises so that we begin the day feeling energized, relaxed, and positive!
What equipment do I need?
We use resistance bands, small balls, and dumbbells. The County can provide bands and balls. The County phone number is included in the email newsletter. You can also visit my shopping page to see (and buy) the bands and dumbbells I use in class.
What is the Feeling Fit newsletter?
The newsletter comes out each Monday. It highlights the schedule for the week, a specific exercise or movement pattern for the week, community events, Feeling Fit Club member spotlight, and other useful resources to support living an active life.
